Ethinyl Estradiol, Norgestimate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for your birth control pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclen and similar). The hormones in it, ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate, are partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies (done in liver cells, not in real people), astaxanthin seemed to speed that enzyme up a bit. If that were to happen in the body, it could clear the hormones a little faster and, in theory, make the pill slightly less reliable, which matters when you're depending on it to prevent pregnancy.

I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it has never been seen in humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since pregnancy prevention is the goal, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding astaxanthin.
