BUPROPION (Wellbutrin)

Theoretically, concomitant use may increase the risk of adverse effects from alcohol.
In patients taking bupropion, there have been rare reports of adverse psychiatric events or reduced alcohol tolerance. Additionally, in chronic alcohol users, abrupt discontinuation of alcohol while taking bupropion may increase the risk of seizure.

Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan, and beer adds alcohol to that mix. The big concern here is your nervous system. Both alcohol and this medication can affect mood and thinking, so drinking can make you feel more dizzy, drowsy, or off-balance, and a few people on bupropion have noticed they tolerate alcohol less well than they used to, or feel unusual mood changes. The evidence for this is mostly anecdotal, so it is a caution rather than a hard rule.

The more serious point: bupropion can lower the seizure threshold. If someone drinks heavily and then suddenly stops, that withdrawal can raise seizure risk while on this drug. The safest move is to keep alcohol very light or skip it, and to talk with your doctor or pharmacist before making any changes.
