These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Beer interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Beer in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Major).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Beer interacts with.
Concomitant use of alcohol with CNS depressants can increase sedative and other adverse effects, potentially through inhibition of the metabolism of certain CNS depressants.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Vituz combines two things that already slow you down: hydrocodone, an opioid cough suppressant, and chlorpheniramine, a sedating antihistamine. Beer adds a third layer of brain-slowing on top of that. The effects pile up, so you can feel much drowsier, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady, and the combo can make your breathing slow and shallow. That last part is the real danger with opioids, especially at higher doses or if you mix more than one drink.
This warning rests on solid clinical consensus, not just a theory, and it's rated major for good reason. Alcohol can also slow how your body clears these medicines, which keeps them around longer. I'd skip beer entirely while taking Vituz, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

NARCOTIC DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Hydrocodone Bitartrate also falls under NARCOTIC DRUGS.
Concomitant consumption of large amounts of alcohol can decrease the metabolism of narcotic drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Vituz combines hydrocodone (a narcotic pain reliever) with chlorpheniramine (a sedating antihistamine). Both of these already slow down your brain and breathing. When you add beer, the alcohol can slow how fast your body clears the hydrocodone, so more of it lingers in your system. On top of that, alcohol piles its own sedation right on top of the medicine's.
In real life, that combination can leave you very drowsy, dizzy, confused, or unsteady, and in larger amounts it can dangerously slow your breathing. Even one or two beers can hit harder than you expect with this medicine. Please don't change anything on your own, but do talk with your pharmacist or doctor about avoiding alcohol while you're taking Vituz.

About Beer
What is Beer?
- Social and recreational drinking
- Relaxation
- Heart health (popular belief)
- Bone health (popular belief)
- Source of antioxidants and B vitamins
Beer is an alcoholic beverage that contains some minerals, B vitamins, and plant compounds from hops and grain, but it is not a health supplement. Any possible benefits come only from light-to-moderate intake, and they are easily outweighed by the well-known harms of alcohol. The safest amount of alcohol for health is none, and beer should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
