Here's something a little different about this pairing. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) isn't a daily diabetes pill, it's a rescue shot you give for a severe low blood sugar emergency. It works in the opposite direction of most diabetes drugs by telling your liver to dump stored sugar into your blood to bring you back up fast.

Berberine, on the other hand, may gently lower blood sugar over time. So in theory it could work slightly against dasiglucagon's job. In practice, this concern is mostly on paper (the evidence here is theoretical), and an emergency glucagon dose is strong enough that berberine is very unlikely to stop it from rescuing a serious low. Still, mention any berberine use to your pharmacist or doctor so they have the full picture.

What Is Dasiglucagon Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zegalogue

Zegalogue is used to treat severe hypoglycemia — a dangerously low blood sugar episode — in adults and children aged 6 years and older who have diabetes. Severe hypoglycemia is a medical emergency that requires immediate action.

Zegalogue is not a day-to-day diabetes medicine. It is prescribed as an emergency kit to be on hand in case a person with diabetes becomes unresponsive or cannot safely swallow food or juice to raise their blood sugar.
