Why this applies to Belladonna, Phenobarbital

Belladonna, Phenobarbital falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Betel Nut interacts with.

In vitro and animal research suggests that betel nut extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Additionally, in one case series, adults who were treated with procyclidine, an anticholinergic drug, and neuroleptics for the management of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) due to fluphenazine ultimately developed severe EPS, such as tremor and stiffness, thought to be related to betel nut use. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and betel nut might decrease the effectiveness of betel nut or the anticholinergic agent.
Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane). Avoid concomitant use.

Here's the simple version of what's going on. Products like Bellophen contain belladonna, which is an anticholinergic ingredient (it works by blocking a nerve messenger called acetylcholine). Betel nut appears to push in the opposite direction. Lab and animal studies suggest it can raise acetylcholine activity, which could partly cancel out what the belladonna is trying to do. So in theory, the belladonna may not work as well, and you might notice more of the symptoms it was meant to calm.

I want to be honest that this is mostly theoretical, based on pharmacology and one small case report, not strong human studies. Still, betel nut is genuinely harmful on its own and best avoided. Keep in mind the phenobarbital piece is sedating too. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
