PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Ofloxacin
Ofloxacin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Bishop's Weed interacts with.
Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing Bishop's Weed with ofloxacin. This antibiotic already carries a known tendency to make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, which is true of fluoroquinolones as a group. Bishop's Weed contains psoralens, natural compounds that also ramp up how your skin reacts to UV light. Put the two together and you could theoretically sunburn faster or break out in a rash, even on a day that wouldn't normally bother you.
I'll be honest, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence rather than solid studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, while you're on ofloxacin, it's smart to use sunscreen, cover up outdoors, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any psoralen supplement.

About Bishop's Weed
What is Bishop's Weed?
- Vitiligo (loss of skin color)
- Psoriasis
- Digestive complaints
- Asthma and breathing problems
- Kidney stones
- Diuretic (increasing urine)
Bishop's Weed (Ammi majus) is a flowering plant whose seeds contain natural light-sensitizing compounds called psoralens, which have been studied mainly for skin conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis when combined with light therapy. The plant is potentially toxic and can cause severe skin and eye reactions when exposed to sunlight, so it is not something to take on your own. If you are interested in psoralen-based treatments, work with a dermatologist rather than self-treating.
