Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Hydrochlorothiazide
Hydrochlorothiazide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Bishop's Weed interacts with.
Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of this one: both Bishop's Weed and hydrochlorothiazide can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Hydrochlorothiazide is a well-known "water pill" that, on its own, already raises your risk of sunburn and rashes after time in the sun. Bishop's Weed contains psoralens, natural light-sensitizing compounds, so layering the two together could stack that effect and make you burn faster or break out more easily.
To be fair, this is based mostly on anecdotal reports, not strong studies, so it's more of a sensible caution than a red alert. If you ever did use both, simple sun smarts go a long way: sunscreen, a hat, and limiting midday sun. Honestly, Bishop's Weed isn't something to take on your own anyway, so check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Hydrochlorothiazide page
“Hydrochlorothiazide sits at the strong end of the caution scale for supplement interactions, and the small group of major-rated entries deserves a careful read before everything else on the page. Most of what appears here either adds to the pill's blood-pressure-lowering effect or piles onto its diuretic action, pushing fluid and potas…”

About Bishop's Weed
What is Bishop's Weed?
- Vitiligo (loss of skin color)
- Psoriasis
- Digestive complaints
- Asthma and breathing problems
- Kidney stones
- Diuretic (increasing urine)
Bishop's Weed (Ammi majus) is a flowering plant whose seeds contain natural light-sensitizing compounds called psoralens, which have been studied mainly for skin conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis when combined with light therapy. The plant is potentially toxic and can cause severe skin and eye reactions when exposed to sunlight, so it is not something to take on your own. If you are interested in psoralen-based treatments, work with a dermatologist rather than self-treating.
