Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Dexamethasone
Dexamethasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bishop's Weed interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include alprazolam (Xanax), amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), buspirone (Buspar), cerivastatin (Baycol), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), fexofenadine (Allegra), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), lansoprazole (Prevacid), losartan (Cozaar), lovastatin (Mevacor), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), sertraline (Zoloft), sibutramine (Meridia), sildenafil (Viagra), simvastatin (Zocor), verapamil (Calan, Covera-HS, Isoptin), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear dexamethasone. A compound in Bishop's Weed called bergapten can slow that enzyme down. So in theory, the steroid wouldn't get cleared as quickly and could build up in your blood, giving you a stronger dose than intended.
What might that look like? More of the usual steroid side effects, things like elevated blood sugar, trouble sleeping, mood swings, fluid retention, or stomach upset. I'll be honest, this is mostly based on lab (test tube) data, not solid human studies, so it's a theoretical concern rather than a proven one. Still, Bishop's Weed isn't safe to take on your own anyway. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Bishop's Weed
What is Bishop's Weed?
- Vitiligo (loss of skin color)
- Psoriasis
- Digestive complaints
- Asthma and breathing problems
- Kidney stones
- Diuretic (increasing urine)
Bishop's Weed (Ammi majus) is a flowering plant whose seeds contain natural light-sensitizing compounds called psoralens, which have been studied mainly for skin conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis when combined with light therapy. The plant is potentially toxic and can cause severe skin and eye reactions when exposed to sunlight, so it is not something to take on your own. If you are interested in psoralen-based treatments, work with a dermatologist rather than self-treating.

Dextenza (an eye insert) treats eye inflammation and pain after eye surgery and eye itching from allergic conjunctivitis. Ozurdex (an eye implant) treats macular edema after retinal vein occlusion, non-infectious uveitis of the back of the eye, and diabetic macular edema. Maxidex and dexamethasone sodium phosphate eye drops treat steroid-responsive inflammation of the front of the eye.
