Drug & supplement interaction

Black Mulberry + Mitomycin

Mitomycin brand names: Mutamycin, Mitosol, Jelmyto.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Black Mulberry and Mitomycin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Black Mulberry and Mitomycin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Mitomycin and Black Mulberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Black Mulberry safety at a glance

Black Mulberry overall Use caution The fruit is safe as food, but concentrated supplement doses are less studied.
Pregnancy Use caution Eating the fruit as food is likely fine, but avoid concentrated extracts unless your doctor approves.
Breastfeeding Use caution Fruit as food is likely fine, but there is little safety data on supplement doses.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Mitomycin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Mitomycin is filed under 3 classifications — antitumor antibiotics, topical drugs, oral drugs. Black Mulberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and midazolam (versed) (moderate) — and none of Mitomycin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Black Mulberry and Mitomycin May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Mitomycin page

“Activated charcoal is the entry to know first with mitomycin (Mutamycin, Mitosol, Jelmyto), a chemotherapy drug, because charcoal binds medications and can cut the amount the body receives, and it carries this list's only major rating. A weakened dose of a cancer treatment is a real loss, so I would treat these 26 interactions with gen…”

About Black Mulberry

What is Black Mulberry?

Black Mulberry
  • General antioxidant support
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol and heart health
  • Digestive health
  • Cold and sore throat remedies (traditional)

Black mulberry is a nutritious fruit rich in antioxidants and vitamins, and it is generally safe to enjoy as a food. Some early research on its leaf and fruit extracts hints at benefits for blood sugar and cholesterol, but the evidence is still limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts, especially if you have a health condition.

Morus nigra · Moraceae · Fruit (berries), leaves, and sometimes root bark · Fresh or dried fruit, juice, jam, tea, powder, and capsules or extracts

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Black Mulberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Black Mulberry record says about it on its own.

Black Mulberry: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for black mulberry supplements. The amount in products varies widely depending on whether the fruit, leaf, or an extract is used.If you use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not take more than recommended. Eating the fresh or dried fruit as part of a normal diet does not require special dosing.

About Mitomycin

What Is Mitomycin Used For?

Brand names: Mutamycin, Mitosol, Jelmyto

Mitomycin (and its brand Mutamycin) is used intravenously in combination with other chemotherapy drugs to treat disseminated adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer that has spread) of the stomach or pancreas, when other treatments have not worked. It is not intended to replace surgery or radiation therapy.

Mitomycin is also the active ingredient in other products for different uses: Jelmyto treats low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer (cancer of the upper urinary tract); Zusduri treats recurrent low-grade intermediate-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer; and Mitosol is used as a surgical aid during certain glaucoma eye surgery. These are separate products with distinct indications and are not interchangeable with the intravenous injection form.
