Canagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Black Mulberry interacts with.

Theoretically, black mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
One small clinical study shows that black mulberry leaf extract has hypoglycemic effects. This is supported by in vitro research which also suggests that constituents in black mulberry twigs and leaves might have hypoglycemic effects.

Here's the simple version: canagliflozin (Invokana) already works to bring your blood sugar down, and black mulberry leaf may nudge it down a little too. A small study and some lab research suggest the leaf has its own mild blood sugar lowering effect. So if you stack a concentrated mulberry leaf extract on top of your Invokana, the two together could push your sugar lower than expected.

If that happens, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, irritable, or tired, the usual signs of low blood sugar. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical, and simply enjoying mulberries as a fruit is unlikely to cause trouble. The concern is with concentrated leaf supplements. Before adding one, check with your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.

About Canagliflozin

What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
