Drug & supplement interaction

Black Mulberry + Quetiapine

Quetiapine brand names: Seroquel, Dopaquel.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Black Mulberry and Quetiapine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Quetiapine states a food rule worth keeping to.

Black Mulberry and Quetiapine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Quetiapine and Black Mulberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Black Mulberry safety at a glance

Black Mulberry overall Use caution The fruit is safe as food, but concentrated supplement doses are less studied.
Pregnancy Use caution Eating the fruit as food is likely fine, but avoid concentrated extracts unless your doctor approves.
Breastfeeding Use caution Fruit as food is likely fine, but there is little safety data on supplement doses.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Quetiapine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Quetiapine is filed under 10 classifications — including antipsychotic drugs, qt interval-prolonging drugs, serotonergic drugs. Black Mulberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and midazolam (versed) (moderate) — and none of Quetiapine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Keep it in perspective

What to actually watch for

What Black Mulberry Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Quetiapine. It is the side-effect record for Black Mulberry on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Black Mulberry, this list is the first place to look.

  • A skin rash Additional detail

“Topically, black mulberry leaf may cause contact dermatitis. A case of lichenoid contact dermatitis was reported in a 68-year-old male who came into contact with black mulberry leaves while picking black mulberries.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Black Mulberry — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Quetiapine’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Quetiapine column appears here.

How to take them

Some Quetiapine Products Have a Food Rule — Black Mulberry Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Quetiapine says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Black Mulberry included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Quetiapine on its own and move Black Mulberry to a meal later in the day.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Quetiapine products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

It is recommended that SEROQUEL XR be taken without food or with a light meal (approximately 300 calories) [see Clinical Pharmacology (12.3) ].

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Quetiapine — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Quetiapine drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Quetiapine page

“Quetiapine (Seroquel) treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, illnesses where an unplanned swing in the drug's blood level has real consequences, and that is why these 199 supplement interactions deserve a careful read rather than a shrug. Most of the risk runs through CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears quetiapine: grapefruit bloc…”

About Black Mulberry

What is Black Mulberry?

Black Mulberry
  • General antioxidant support
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol and heart health
  • Digestive health
  • Cold and sore throat remedies (traditional)

Black mulberry is a nutritious fruit rich in antioxidants and vitamins, and it is generally safe to enjoy as a food. Some early research on its leaf and fruit extracts hints at benefits for blood sugar and cholesterol, but the evidence is still limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts, especially if you have a health condition.

Morus nigra · Moraceae · Fruit (berries), leaves, and sometimes root bark · Fresh or dried fruit, juice, jam, tea, powder, and capsules or extracts

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Black Mulberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Black Mulberry record says about it on its own.

Black Mulberry: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for black mulberry supplements. The amount in products varies widely depending on whether the fruit, leaf, or an extract is used.If you use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not take more than recommended. Eating the fresh or dried fruit as part of a normal diet does not require special dosing.
