Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Golimumab (Simponi Aria) works by calming down an overactive immune system, specifically by blocking a signal called TNF that drives inflammation in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Blood irradiation therapy, on the other hand, is thought to stimulate immune activity. So in theory, the two could pull in opposite directions, meaning the light therapy might blunt some of golimumab's benefit and let your joint pain, swelling, or stiffness creep back.

I want to be honest with you: this concern is theoretical, based on how each one is believed to work, not on solid studies in people taking both. Still, since golimumab is a serious medication for a serious condition, I'd loop in your rheumatologist or pharmacist before adding any light therapy.

What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
