About Moxidectin

What Is Moxidectin Used For?

Brand name: Moxidectin

Moxidectin Tablets are used to treat onchocerciasis — a parasitic infection caused by Onchocerca volvulus, commonly known as river blindness. It is approved for adults and children aged 4 years and older who weigh at least 13 kg (about 29 lbs).

Important to know: Moxidectin does not kill the adult O. volvulus worms — it targets the immature larvae (microfilariae) instead. Because of this, follow-up evaluation after treatment is advised. The safety and effectiveness of taking Moxidectin more than once for this infection has not been studied.
