Cyclobenzaprine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.

In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Extracts obtained from different geographical regions in Quebec resulted in differing potency of CYP3A4 induction. Bog Labrador tea might increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.

Here's the gist for cyclobenzaprine: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 (among others) to break this muscle relaxer down. In lab tests, extracts of Bog Labrador tea seem to speed up that enzyme. If that happened in your body, it could clear cyclobenzaprine a bit faster, meaning it might not relax your sore muscles or ease your pain as well as it should.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It comes only from test-tube and lab work, not from people, and the effect even varied by where the plant was grown. So this is more of a theoretical heads-up than a proven problem. Cyclobenzaprine is not a prodrug, so faster breakdown means weaker effect, not stronger. If you enjoy this tea and take cyclobenzaprine, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Cyclobenzaprine Used For?

Brand names: Cyclobenzaprine, Flexeril, Cycloprine

Cyclobenzaprine tablets and extended-release capsules are used alongside rest and physical therapy to relieve muscle spasm caused by acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions — easing pain, tenderness, and limited movement. This use is intended for short-term treatment only (up to 2–3 weeks).

Tonmya, the sublingual (under-the-tongue) form of cyclobenzaprine, is separately indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. It is not the same as the oral tablet or capsule formulations.
