Bog Labrador Tea + Erythromycin
Erythromycin brand names: Erythro S, PCE, E-Mycin, Erythro-ES, EryPed Chewable, and others.
Bog Labrador Tea has a moderate interaction with Erythromycin. In vitro research shows that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Bog Labrador tea leaves can increase the concentration of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Erythromycin
Erythromycin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bog Labrador Tea interacts with.
Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), amiodarone (Cordarone), ticagrelor (Brilinta), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with erythromycin and Bog Labrador tea. Your body clears erythromycin partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Early lab studies (done in test tubes, not in people) suggest this tea may speed that enzyme up. If that happens in real life, your body could clear the antibiotic a little faster, which might leave less of it around to fully knock out your infection.
I want to keep this in perspective. The evidence here is weak and based only on lab work, so we honestly don't know how much it matters in a real person. The bigger concern is simply not getting the full benefit of your antibiotic. Since you want erythromycin working at full strength, just mention the tea to your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Erythromycin page
“Erythromycin calls for more supplement caution than most antibiotics, and the reason is one liver enzyme, CYP3A4. Erythromycin both blocks that enzyme and is broken down by it, so grapefruit can push erythromycin levels up while St.”

About Bog Labrador Tea
What is Bog Labrador Tea?
- Coughs and respiratory complaints
- Digestive upset and diarrhea
- Anxiety and stress
- As a warm beverage
- Aches and pains (traditional use)
Bog Labrador tea is a wetland shrub whose leaves have long been brewed as a traditional beverage and folk remedy, especially among Indigenous peoples of North America. There is very little human research to confirm any health benefit, and the plant is closely related to species that contain toxic compounds, so it should be used cautiously and in moderation. Pregnant or breastfeeding people should avoid it, and anyone considering it should talk with a pharmacist or doctor first.
About Erythromycin
What Is Erythromycin Used For?
Brand names: Erythro S, PCE, E-Mycin, Erythro-ES, EryPed Chewable, Eryc, Ery-Tab, Rythro Enca, Erythro E-C, Erythro Base, Ilosone, Ilotycin
Erythromycin treats bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Oral and intravenous forms are used for upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, pertussis (whooping cough), Legionnaires' disease, sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia), listeriosis, and other conditions. Erythrocin Lactobionate IV and erythromycin lactobionate injection are specifically for patients who cannot take oral medication or who need rapid, high blood levels due to severe infection — IV therapy should be switched to oral as soon as appropriate.
Erythromycin topical solution 2% and Ery 2% Pads (swabs) are indicated only for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris (acne) and are applied directly to the skin — they are not used for internal infections.
