Broccoli Sprout and Letrozole

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Letrozole and Broccoli Sprout in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Letrozole

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Letrozole is filed under 4 classifications — including aromatase inhibitors, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Broccoli Sprout has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates (minor) and cytochrome p450 2a6 (cyp2a6) substrates (minor) — and none of Letrozole’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Broccoli Sprout Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Letrozole. It is the side-effect record for Broccoli Sprout on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Broccoli Sprout, this list is the first place to look.

  • Stomach pain / Diarrhea Additional detail

“Orally, loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and abdominal cramping have been reported following intake of broccoli seed and broccoli sprout extracts, particularly at high doses. Consuming raw broccoli sprouts that have been improperly grown may cause food-borne illness. Improperly grown broccoli sprouts may be contaminated with bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, or Escherichia coli O157:H7.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Broccoli Sprout — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Letrozole’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Letrozole column appears here.

Broccoli Sprout in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy And Lactation Likely Safe

When COOKED broccoli sprouts are consumed in amounts commonly found in foods. Broccoli sprout is considered safe for dietary consumption provided the sprouts are grown in accordance with food safety recommendations developed by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are cooked prior to eating.

Pregnancy And Lactation Possibly Unsafe

When RAW broccoli sprouts are consumed in amounts commonly found in foods. There is evidence that uncooked broccoli sprouts may be contaminated with bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, or Escherichia coli O157:H7. Pregnant individuals are particularly susceptible to these food-borne illnesses, and becoming infected can increase the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or neonatal infection. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of broccoli sprout extract during pregnancy or lactation; avoid using.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Letrozole

This page covers Broccoli Sprout only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Letrozole page lists 142 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), 7-methoxyflavone (moderate) and Acacia Rigidula (moderate).

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Letrozole page

“Letrozole (Femara) is prescribed to keep hormone-driven breast cancer from returning, so a supplement that shifts its blood level can quietly undercut treatment. Give this list of 142 ingredients genuine respect, and learn the three major entries first.”

About Broccoli Sprout

What is Broccoli Sprout?

  • Antioxidant support
  • Detoxification support
  • General heart health
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Digestive and gut health

Broccoli sprouts are young broccoli seedlings rich in a compound called sulforaphane, which is being studied for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxification effects. Early research is promising for some uses, but high-quality human evidence is still limited, so they should be viewed as a healthy food rather than a proven treatment. As food they are generally safe, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Brassica oleracea var. italica · Brassicaceae · Young sprouts (seedlings) of the broccoli plant · Fresh sprouts, powders, capsules, tablets, and standardized extracts (often labeled as containing sulforaphane or glucoraphanin)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Broccoli Sprout is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Broccoli Sprout record says about it on its own.

Broccoli Sprout: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for broccoli sprouts or their extracts. Studies have used different forms and amounts, often described by the amount of glucoraphanin or sulforaphane, which makes comparison difficult. If you are eating them as food, a serving as part of a balanced diet is reasonable. If you choose a supplement, follow the directions on the product label and choose a reputable brand.
