Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Asenapine
Asenapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Broccoli Sprout interacts with.
Animal research shows that broccoli sprout extract can increase CYP1A2 gene expression. Also, pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to glucosinolate constituents, which are also found in broccoli sprout.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for asenapine (Saphris, Secuado). Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear this medication. Broccoli sprouts contain compounds that may gently speed that enzyme up, which in theory could clear asenapine a little faster and make it slightly less effective. With a mood-stabilizing antipsychotic, weaker coverage could mean your symptoms aren't as well controlled.
That said, this is rated minor and is only theoretical, based on how the enzyme behaves rather than real-world reports. Eating broccoli sprouts as a normal food is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated supplements are the bigger unknown. If you're thinking about a daily extract, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Asenapine page
“The heart rhythm risk is the one to understand first. Asenapine (Saphris, Secuado), an antipsychotic for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, can affect the QT interval, the electrical reset between heartbeats, and 13 ingredients on this list can prolong it too, including everyday grapefruit.”

About Broccoli Sprout
What is Broccoli Sprout?
- Antioxidant support
- Detoxification support
- General heart health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Digestive and gut health
Broccoli sprouts are young broccoli seedlings rich in a compound called sulforaphane, which is being studied for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxification effects. Early research is promising for some uses, but high-quality human evidence is still limited, so they should be viewed as a healthy food rather than a proven treatment. As food they are generally safe, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
