Here's the simple version: Effient (prasugrel) already does a powerful job of keeping your platelets from clumping and forming clots, which is exactly why your doctor paired it with aspirin after your heart procedure. Buchu may have a mild blood-thinning, anti-platelet quality of its own. Stack that on top of Effient, and the concern is a little extra bleeding risk, not a change in how your body breaks the drug down.

In practice, that could mean easier bruising, nosebleeds, gums that bleed when you brush, or cuts that take longer to stop. To be fair, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence and is largely theoretical. Still, since Effient is already a strong blood thinner, I'd check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding buchu.

Buchu is a fragrant South African shrub whose leaves are traditionally used for urinary and bladder complaints and as a diuretic. Solid human studies are lacking, so its benefits are largely unproven, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. What Is Prasugrel Used For?

Brand name: Prasugrel

Prasugrel tablets (brand names Effient and Prasugrel) are used to lower the risk of dangerous blood clots — including clots that can block a stent — in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which includes unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and heart attacks (both NSTEMI and STEMI types). It is used specifically in patients who are being treated with a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which a catheter is used to open a blocked coronary artery, often with a stent.

Effient has been shown to reduce the combined rate of cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, or nonfatal stroke compared to clopidogrel — with the benefit driven mainly by fewer heart attacks.
