Canadian hemp contains cardiac glycosides. Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium depleting diuretics and Canadian hemp can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

The medication you're asking about combines deserpidine with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a water pill. Here's the key point: HCTZ tends to flush potassium out of your body. When your potassium runs low, your heart becomes much more sensitive to anything that acts like a heart glycoside. Canadian Hemp contains exactly those kinds of heart-stimulating glycosides, so the worry is that pairing the two could nudge you toward heart rhythm problems, like an irregular or pounding heartbeat, dizziness, or nausea.

I'll be straight with you: this concern is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than real case reports. But Canadian Hemp is genuinely toxic and isn't a safe supplement to begin with. Please don't combine them, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor about safer, proven options. Never adjust your blood pressure medicine on your own.
