Canadian hemp contains cardiac glycosides. Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium depleting diuretics and Canadian hemp can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the connection worth knowing. Canadian Hemp contains natural cardiac glycosides, the same kind of heart-acting compounds found in digitalis drugs. Methazolamide (Neptazane) is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor for glaucoma, and like many drugs in the broader diuretic family, it can lower your body's potassium over time. When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those glycosides, which raises the risk of toxic heart effects like an irregular or dangerously slow heartbeat.

I'll be honest with you: this concern is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than real-world reports. But the bigger issue is that Canadian Hemp itself is genuinely toxic and not recommended at all. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this with your Methazolamide.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
