Why this applies to Insulin Lispro

Insulin Lispro falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Capsicum interacts with.

Theoretically, taking capsicum with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Preliminary clinical research shows that consuming capsicum 5 grams along with a glucose drink attenuates the rise in plasma glucose after 30 minutes by 21%, decreases the 2-hour postprandial area under the curve of plasma glucose by 11%, and increases the 2-hour postprandial area under the curve of plasma insulin by 58% in healthy individuals when compared with placebo. Other clinical research shows that taking capsicum 5 mg daily for 28 days significantly reduces postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels, but not fasting blood glucose and insulin levels, in patients with gestational diabetes.

Here's the simple version: Insulin lispro already lowers your blood sugar, and capsicum (chili pepper) taken in supplement amounts may give it a little extra nudge in the same direction. Some small studies found that capsicum lowered the blood sugar spike after a meal. Stack that on top of your mealtime insulin and you could land lower than you expect, which means a higher chance of hypoglycemia (shaking, sweating, dizziness, fast heartbeat, confusion).

Keep in mind this is theoretical and based on weaker research, and the chili you put on dinner is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question. If you want to try one, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your readings so your insulin dose stays right for you.

What Is Insulin Lispro Injection Used For?

Brand names: Admelog, Admelog Solostar

Insulin lispro injection is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in people with diabetes mellitus. It is a rapid-acting insulin analog approved for use in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Admelog is specifically indicated to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. Humalog Mix75/25 is indicated to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus; it is a fixed-ratio mixture of insulin lispro and insulin lispro protamine, and its fixed proportions do not allow for separate adjustment of basal (background) and prandial (mealtime) doses.
