Here's the simple version: carob is full of fiber and tannins, and those can grab onto things in your gut, including some medicines, and keep a bit of them from being absorbed. The concern with benztropine taken by mouth is that carob might lower how much actually gets into your system. If less is absorbed, the medicine may not control your Parkinson's symptoms or tremors as well as it should.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. This is a theoretical worry based only on lab work, mostly about minerals, not a proven problem with benztropine in people. A practical habit is to space them out, taking your benztropine first and your carob 30 to 60 minutes later. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Carob is a Mediterranean tree whose pods are widely used as a caffeine-free, naturally sweet cocoa alternative and as a thickener (carob gum). It is mostly eaten as a food and is generally well tolerated, and carob pod preparations have some traditional and limited research use for diarrhea, but evidence for most medicinal claims is limited. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a treatment, especially for infants or children.

What Is Benztropine Used For?

Brand names: Cogentin, Cogentin Injection

Benztropine mesylate is used as part of the treatment for all forms of parkinsonism — a group of conditions that cause tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. It is not a cure, but it helps ease symptoms when used alongside other therapies.

It is also used to control extrapyramidal disorders (abnormal, involuntary muscle movements and stiffness) that can be caused by antipsychotic drugs such as phenothiazines. It is not used for tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled muscle movements that develop after long-term use of certain psychiatric drugs).
