Carob + Prednisone
Prednisone brand names: Deltasone, Cortan, Orasone, Prednisone, Prednicen-M, and others.
Carob has a minor interaction with Prednisone. Theoretically, carob might also impair the absorption of oral drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Prednisone
Prednisone falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Carob interacts with.
Laboratory research shows that carob, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Take carob 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: carob is full of fiber and tannins, and those compounds can grab onto things in your gut. The concern with prednisone is that a fiber-rich food or thickener like carob might bind a little of the drug and keep some of it from being absorbed. In theory, that could mean slightly less prednisone getting into your system, so your medicine might not work quite as well at controlling inflammation, swelling, or whatever condition you're treating.
That said, this is very much a theoretical, minor concern based on lab and feeding studies, not real-world cases. To stay on the safe side, just take your prednisone first and enjoy carob about 30 to 60 minutes later. If you use carob daily or in large amounts, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Questions About Carob or Prednisone
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Carob or Prednisone, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Prednisone
This page covers Carob only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Prednisone page lists 208 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), Lily-of-the-valley (major), St. John's Wort (major) and Acacia Rigidula (moderate).
By severity: 4 major · 168 moderate · 36 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Prednisone page
“Prednisone (Deltasone) suppresses the immune system to control inflammation, and that mechanism shapes most of what can go wrong on this 208-ingredient list, which I read as one to approach carefully rather than casually. Four entries rate major.”

About Carob
What is Carob?
- Diarrhea (especially in children)
- Cocoa/chocolate substitute
- Digestive upset
- Acid reflux/heartburn
- Source of dietary fiber
Carob is a Mediterranean tree whose pods are widely used as a caffeine-free, naturally sweet cocoa alternative and as a thickener (carob gum). It is mostly eaten as a food and is generally well tolerated, and carob pod preparations have some traditional and limited research use for diarrhea, but evidence for most medicinal claims is limited. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a treatment, especially for infants or children.

Prednisone Is Linked to Lower Levels of 8 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Prednisone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Carob — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
