Carob + Minocycline
Minocycline brand names: Vectrin, Dynacin, Minocin, Minocin IV, Solodyn, and others.
Carob has a minor interaction with Minocycline. Theoretically, carob might also impair the absorption of oral drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Minocycline
Minocycline falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Carob interacts with.
Laboratory research shows that carob, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Take carob 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with carob and minocycline. Carob is loaded with tannins and fiber, and these can grab onto things in your gut. The concern is that taking carob too close to your minocycline could bind some of the drug and keep it from being fully absorbed. If that happened, you might get a little less antibiotic into your bloodstream, which could mean it works less well against the infection or acne you're treating.
The good news: this is rated minor and is mostly theoretical, based on lab studies showing carob blocks mineral absorption. To play it safe, just space them out. A simple plan is to take your minocycline first, then have carob 30 to 60 minutes later. If you use carob daily, mention it to your pharmacist so they can double-check your timing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Minocycline page
“This is one of the longer interaction lists I review, and with minocycline it earns real care rather than a shrug. Most entries pair this tetracycline antibiotic, taken for acne and other infections, with supplements that raise bleeding risk, and a second sizable group, beer and wine included, can add strain on the liver.”

About Carob
What is Carob?
- Diarrhea (especially in children)
- Cocoa/chocolate substitute
- Digestive upset
- Acid reflux/heartburn
- Source of dietary fiber
Carob is a Mediterranean tree whose pods are widely used as a caffeine-free, naturally sweet cocoa alternative and as a thickener (carob gum). It is mostly eaten as a food and is generally well tolerated, and carob pod preparations have some traditional and limited research use for diarrhea, but evidence for most medicinal claims is limited. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a treatment, especially for infants or children.
About Minocycline
What Is Minocycline Used For?
Brand names: Vectrin, Dynacin, Minocin, Minocin IV, Solodyn, Acnamino MR, Minocin MR, Sebomin MR, Aknemin, Arestin Miscrosperes, Amzeeq, Zilxi
Minocycline is mainly used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Oral capsules and tablets, and Minocin intravenous (IV), are labeled for many infections. These include rickettsial infections such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Mycoplasma pneumoniae respiratory infections, chlamydia-related infections, plague, tularemia, cholera and brucellosis (with streptomycin). Some gram-negative bacterial infections are included when lab testing shows the bacteria respond.
Other minocycline products are not for infections at all. Extended-release tablets (including Minolira) treat inflammatory acne lesions in patients 12 and older. Amzeeq foam treats inflammatory acne in patients 9 and older. Zilxi foam and Emrosi capsules treat inflammatory rosacea lesions in adults. Arestin is placed in gum pockets by a dental professional for adult periodontitis.
