Here's the gist with carob and your Ingrezza (valbenazine). Carob is rich in tannins and fiber, and lab studies suggest those compounds can grab onto things in the gut and slow how well they get absorbed. The worry here is the same idea: a big serving of carob, or carob used as a thickener, might cut down a little on how much valbenazine your body takes in. In theory, that could make it work less well for your tardive dyskinesia movements.

I want to be honest though, this is rated minor and is based only on lab and animal research, not real patient cases, so it's nothing to lose sleep over. To play it safe, just take your valbenazine first and enjoy carob 30 to 60 minutes later. Run any questions by your pharmacist or doctor.

Carob is a Mediterranean tree whose pods are widely used as a caffeine-free, naturally sweet cocoa alternative and as a thickener (carob gum). It is mostly eaten as a food and is generally well tolerated, and carob pod preparations have some traditional and limited research use for diarrhea, but evidence for most medicinal claims is limited. What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
