Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the short version: Monopril HCT (fosinopril plus hydrochlorothiazide) already lowers your blood pressure, and cat's claw might nudge it down a little further. The vine contains a compound called rhynchophylline that, in lab and animal studies, appears to relax blood vessels. So in theory, stacking the two could push your pressure too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or shaky, especially when you stand up quickly. I want to be honest, though: this has never actually been reported in people, and the evidence is purely theoretical. It's worth a heads-up rather than alarm. Before adding cat's claw, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and if you do try it, keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.
