Here's the concern with chaparral and your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate combo). This isn't about chaparral changing how well your pill prevents pregnancy. The worry is about your liver. Chaparral has been tied to serious, sometimes lasting liver damage, and combination birth control pills can also put a little stress on the liver in some people. Put them together, and the thought is that the strain could add up.

To be honest, this is a theoretical, anecdotal warning, not something proven, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, given how risky chaparral can be on its own, I'd steer clear of it. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your doctor or pharmacist.
