Here's the gist for dexchlorpheniramine (Polaramine) paired with chenopodium oil. This isn't about how your body breaks down the medicine. Instead, it's about your skin and the sun. Both chenopodium plants and certain antihistamines like dexchlorpheniramine have been linked with photosensitivity, meaning your skin may sunburn more easily than usual.

Put them together and, in theory, you could be a bit more prone to burning, redness, or a rash after time outdoors. I'll be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not something proven by strong studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Using sunscreen and covering up is a sensible step. Please don't stop or change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Chenopodium oil is a strong-smelling essential oil from the epazote plant that was historically used to treat intestinal worms. It contains ascaridole, a compound that is quite toxic, and overdoses have caused serious harm, so it is no longer recommended for internal use. Chlorpheniramine is used to temporarily relieve common allergy symptoms caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis) or other upper respiratory allergies. These include runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

These uses are supported across multiple products — including tablets (such as Aller-chlor, Allergy, Allergy Relief, Allergy Time, Anti Allergy, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate), extended-release tablets (Allergy Relief and Chlorphen-12), the oral solution Ed Chlorped Jr, and the inhalers ClorRelief and ClorRelief KIDs.
