Here's the gist for metformin and Chinese cucumber. The concern is that this herb may have its own blood sugar lowering activity. If that's true, stacking it on top of metformin could push your glucose too low, leading to symptoms like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, irritability, or feeling foggy. So the two could add together in the same direction.

I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical caution based on lab and animal work, not solid human studies. We simply don't have good evidence on how strong this effect is in real people. If you're considering Chinese cucumber, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor first and keep a closer eye on your home glucose readings so nothing surprising slips by.

Metformin is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is always used together with diet and exercise, not instead of them.

Metformin hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are approved for adults and children 10 years and older. Metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets — including brands such as Fortamet, Glumetza, and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended Release — are approved for adults only.
