Ixazomib Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chokeberry interacts with.

Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.

Here's the basic idea with Ninlaro (ixazomib) and chokeberry. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear ixazomib. In lab tests, chokeberry seems to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, ixazomib could clear more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger side effects like nausea, diarrhea, low blood counts, fatigue, or tingling in the hands and feet.

I want to be honest, though: this is mostly theory. It comes from test-tube studies plus a single case report with a different drug, so the proof is thin. A little chokeberry juice or jam likely won't matter, but concentrated supplements are less predictable. Since ixazomib is serious cancer therapy, please run any chokeberry product by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Ixazomib Used For?

Brand name: Ninlaro

Ninlaro (ixazomib) is used to treat multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is always used together with two other medicines, lenalidomide and dexamethasone, and is approved for adults who have already tried at least one other treatment.

Ninlaro is not recommended as maintenance therapy or for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone outside of controlled clinical trials.
