Valbenazine Tosylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chokeberry interacts with.

Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear Ingrezza (valbenazine). Lab studies suggest chokeberry may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, valbenazine could build up in your system, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, balance trouble, or a slower heartbeat.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It's mostly test-tube data plus a single case report involving a different medication, so this is more theoretical than proven. Eating chokeberry as juice or jam is unlikely to be a problem, but concentrated supplements are a bigger unknown. Before adding one, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
