These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Clubmoss interacts with whole categories of medication. Donepezil (patch) falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Clubmoss in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE (AChE) INHIBITORS
1 of 2Why this applies to Donepezil (patch)
Donepezil (patch) falls under ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE (AChE) INHIBITORS — the group Clubmoss interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your Adlarity patch works by blocking an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which raises helpful chemical messengers in the brain. Here's the thing: lab studies suggest clubmoss may block that same enzyme. So if you use both, they could push in the same direction and stack their effects together.
In real life, that could mean more of donepezil's typical side effects, like nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, a slow heartbeat, dizziness, or muscle twitching. I'll be honest with you, though: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from studies in people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, clubmoss has its own toxic alkaloids, so I'd skip it and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

CHOLINERGIC DRUGS
2 of 2Donepezil (patch) also falls under CHOLINERGIC DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your donepezil patch (Adlarity) works by blocking an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which boosts a brain chemical involved in memory. Lab studies hint that clubmoss may block that same enzyme. So if you use both, you could get too much of the same effect stacked together.
That could mean stronger cholinergic side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, dizziness, a slow heartbeat, or muscle twitching. I'll be honest with you though, this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Clubmoss also carries its own toxic alkaloids. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Clubmoss
What is Clubmoss?
- Bladder and kidney complaints
- Digestive upset
- Skin irritation and chafing
- Respiratory problems
- Used in homeopathy
Clubmoss (Lycopodium clavatum) is a primitive plant with a long history in folk medicine and homeopathy, but there is very little reliable human research to show it works for any health condition. It contains potentially toxic alkaloids, so it should be used with great caution, and people who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid it. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
