Desipramine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Clubmoss interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that clubmoss extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and clubmoss might decrease the effectiveness of club moss or the anticholinergic agent. Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane).

Here's the gist for desipramine: this antidepressant has its own anticholinergic side, meaning it tends to dial down a brain chemical called acetylcholine. That's part of why it can cause dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, and trouble urinating. Lab studies hint that clubmoss does the opposite, nudging acetylcholine levels back up. So if you took both, they could partly work against each other, possibly making clubmoss less useful or slightly blunting some of desipramine's anticholinergic effects.

I want to be honest, though: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, so it's mostly theoretical. Since clubmoss contains potentially toxic alkaloids and desipramine needs steady levels to work, please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Desipramine Used For?

Brand names: Norpramin, Desipramine, Pertofrane

Desipramine hydrochloride tablets — sold under the brand names Norpramin, Desipramine HCL, and Desipramine Hydrochloride — are FDA-approved for the treatment of depression in adults. Norpramin tablets and the generic formulations share this same approved indication.

Desipramine tablets are not approved for use in children. Adolescents and elderly patients may be prescribed it in certain circumstances, but at lower doses and under close supervision.
