These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Cocoa interacts with whole categories of medication. Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Cocoa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina
Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Cocoa interacts with.
Clinical research shows that cocoa can modestly decrease blood pressure in hypertensive and normotensive patients.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Rauzide combines two blood pressure lowering ingredients: bendroflumethiazide (a water pill) and rauwolfia serpentina (which calms an overactive nervous system). Cocoa flavanols can gently relax blood vessels and nudge your blood pressure down a little on their own. So when you pair concentrated cocoa supplements with this medication, the two effects could stack and push your pressure lower than intended.
In real life this might show up as feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, and cocoa's effect is usually modest. A square of chocolate now and then is unlikely to be a problem, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a cocoa supplement.

DIURETIC DRUGS
2 of 2Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina also falls under DIURETIC DRUGS.
Cocoa contains caffeine. In excessive amounts, caffeine can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Rauzide is a combination of bendroflumethiazide (a thiazide-type water pill) and rauwolfia. One thing thiazide diuretics are known to do is push your potassium levels down over time. The idea here is that cocoa contains a little caffeine, and in large amounts caffeine may also nudge potassium lower by shifting it into your cells. So in theory, piling concentrated cocoa on top of your diuretic could add up to lower potassium than you'd want.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is. This is a theoretical concern based on how the body works, not something well documented in people. A cup of cocoa or a square of chocolate is very unlikely to matter. Low potassium can cause muscle cramps, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat, so if you use high-dose cocoa supplements, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bendroflumethiazide, Rauwolfia Serpentina page
“Rauzide combines two blood-pressure medicines, the thiazide diuretic bendroflumethiazide and rauwolfia serpentina, so anything that also lowers pressure, pulls off fluid, or shifts electrolytes lands on already sensitive ground. This page warrants real caution.”

About Cocoa
What is Cocoa?
- Heart and blood vessel health
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Mental focus and mood
- Skin moisturizing (cocoa butter)
Cocoa is rich in plant compounds called flavanols that may modestly support blood vessel function and blood pressure, but most chocolate products are high in sugar, fat, and calories, which can offset any benefit. Enjoy cocoa as part of a balanced diet, and talk to your pharmacist before using concentrated cocoa supplements, especially if you have heart or blood pressure conditions.
