Cocoa + Clinafloxacin
Clinafloxacin brand name: Clinafloxacin.
Cocoa has a moderate interaction with Clinafloxacin. Theoretically, quinolone antibiotics might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Clinafloxacin
Clinafloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Cocoa interacts with.
Cocoa contains caffeine. Quinolones (also referred to as fluoroquinolones) decrease caffeine clearance.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know: this interaction is really about the caffeine in cocoa, not the cocoa flavanols. Clinafloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and drugs in this family can slow down how your body clears caffeine. That means the caffeine you take in from chocolate or cocoa can hang around longer and build up a bit.
In practice, you might notice more of the usual caffeine effects, like feeling jittery, a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. A regular cup of hot cocoa or a piece of chocolate isn't likely to be a big deal for most people, but concentrated cocoa supplements (or stacking it with coffee, tea, and soda) could add up. This is based on limited evidence and is considered theoretical, so don't panic. If you feel wired or your heart races, ease up on the caffeine and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Clinafloxacin page
“If you have been prescribed clinafloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic, start with the four interactions rated major, because they all do the same thing: apple, grapefruit, and orange juice, along with activated charcoal, can sharply cut how much of the drug you absorb, and an antibiotic that never reaches your bloodstream cannot clear the…”

About Cocoa
What is Cocoa?
- Heart and blood vessel health
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Mental focus and mood
- Skin moisturizing (cocoa butter)
Cocoa is rich in plant compounds called flavanols that may modestly support blood vessel function and blood pressure, but most chocolate products are high in sugar, fat, and calories, which can offset any benefit. Enjoy cocoa as part of a balanced diet, and talk to your pharmacist before using concentrated cocoa supplements, especially if you have heart or blood pressure conditions.
