Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like a sponge in your gut. Because it has that porous, charcoal-like surface, it can grab onto medicine sitting in your stomach and intestines before your body has a chance to absorb it. With capmatinib (Tabrecta), that could mean less of your cancer medicine actually gets into your bloodstream, which may make it work less well over time.

This concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves rather than studies with this exact drug, so don't panic. Capmatinib matters too much to risk losing any of its effect. A safe habit is to keep coffee charcoal and your capmatinib doses at least a couple hours apart, and please check with your pharmacist or oncologist before combining them.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
