Here's the thing to keep in mind with these two. Coffee charcoal works like a sponge in your gut, and that porous, charcoal-like surface can grab onto medicine before your body has a chance to absorb it. With felbamate, which you take by mouth to help control seizures, that could mean less of the drug actually getting into your system.

Why that matters: if your felbamate levels dip, your seizure control could slip too. That's not something you want to gamble with. The good news is this is mostly a timing issue. Separating the two by at least two hours usually keeps the charcoal from interfering. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves in general, not hard studies on felbamate, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
