ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Oxaprozin
Oxaprozin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like other charcoals in your gut. Its porous surface can grab onto things passing through, including your oxaprozin (Daypro) tablet. If they meet in your stomach around the same time, some of the oxaprozin may get bound up and never absorbed into your bloodstream.
Oxaprozin isn't a prodrug, so this works one way: less drug getting absorbed means less pain and inflammation relief. Your achy, stiff joints might just not settle down the way you'd expect. The good news is this is easy to manage. Simply spacing them out by at least two hours usually avoids the problem. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves rather than firm studies, so don't panic, but do run your timing past your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxaprozin page
“I would put oxaprozin (Daypro), a long-acting NSAID prescribed for arthritis pain, in the read-carefully category. The interactions that concern me most pile onto the drug's own weak spots: alcohol, meaning the beer and wine entries below, raises the odds of stomach bleeding on any NSAID, and several kidney-stressing herbs can deepen t…”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints.
