Evidence from animal studies and limited human studies suggests that DMSO may potentiate the action of numerous topical medications by increasing their absorption through the skin. This increase in absorption seems to depend on the concentration of DMSO and the molecular weight of the medication.

Here's the gist: DMSO acts like a 'carrier' on the skin, helping other substances slip through more easily. So if you're using atropine on your skin and apply DMSO over the same area, you could end up absorbing more atropine than intended. That's the concern here, more drug getting into your body, not less.

With extra atropine on board, you might notice its classic effects ramping up: a dry mouth, blurry vision, a faster heartbeat, flushing, trouble urinating, or feeling overheated because you sweat less. The evidence comes mostly from animal and small human studies, and the effect depends on how concentrated the DMSO is. Still, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than pairing them on your own.
