Here is the simple version: atropine is itself a tropane alkaloid, the very same family of chemicals that makes belladonna work. Both block acetylcholine in the body, so pairing them is basically stacking two anticholinergic medicines on top of each other. That means the effects don't just add up, they can pile on.

When you double up like this, you may notice more dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, trouble urinating, a fast heartbeat, flushing, or confusion, especially in older adults. This concern is based on how these compounds behave (a theoretical, pharmacology-based flag), but it makes good sense to take it seriously. Please don't start, stop, or combine these on your own.
