Here's the thing about pairing belladonna with scopolamine: they work the same way. Scopolamine is itself an anticholinergic, meaning it blocks acetylcholine in your body. Belladonna's natural compounds (atropine, scopolamine, hyoscyamine) do the exact same thing. So you're essentially stacking two anticholinergics on top of each other.

When you double up like this, the side effects can pile on. Think dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, trouble urinating, a fast heartbeat, drowsiness, and in older folks especially, confusion. This concern is based on how these drugs work rather than hard clinical studies, but the logic is solid and the overlap is real. Please don't combine these on your own, talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Scopolamine Transdermal Patch Used For?

Brand names: Scopace, Scopolamine Injection, Transderm Scop

Scopolamine Transdermal System (also sold as Transderm Scōp) is approved for adults to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness. You apply it before travel to help stop queasiness before it starts.

It is also used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) — the nausea and vomiting that can follow surgery, anesthesia, or opioid pain medicines. Transderm Scōp is applied the evening before surgery (for surgeries other than cesarean section) and removed 24 hours after the procedure.
