Omacetaxine Mepesuccinate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research suggests that eleuthero can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. However, it is too soon to tell if this is clinically important. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Omacetaxine (Synribo) is moved around the body partly by a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein. In lab studies, eleuthero appears to slow that pump down. If that happened in people, more omacetaxine could linger in the body, which in theory could mean stronger effects and more side effects, things like low blood counts (raising infection, bleeding, and bruising risk), fatigue, nausea, or diarrhea.

The important caveat: this is only test-tube evidence, and it has never actually been seen in real patients, so we genuinely don't know if it matters. Since omacetaxine is a serious chemotherapy drug, I'd still play it safe. Please run any eleuthero or herbal supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist before using it.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Eleuthero is thought to gently rev up parts of your immune system, while Synribo (omacetaxine) is a cancer medicine that slows the growth of leukemia cells and tends to lower your blood counts and immune defenses. In theory, an herb that nudges the immune system the other way could work against what your treatment is trying to do.

I want to be straight with you though: this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from real people taking the two together, so it's more of a 'why take the chance' caution than a proven problem. Since omacetaxine is a serious chemotherapy drug, I'd run any supplement, including eleuthero, past your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it. Don't change your cancer treatment on your own.

What Is Omacetaxine Injection Used For?

  • Omacetaxine injection is used to treat adults with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) who have already been treated with at least two other medications for CML and can no longer benefit from these medications or cannot take these medications due to side effects. Omacetaxine injection is in a class of medications called protein synthesis inhibitors. It works by slowing the growth of cancer cells.
