Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2D6. However, research in healthy human volunteers has found that taking eleuthero 485 mg twice daily for 14 days does not inhibit CYP2D6 drug metabolism.

Here's the gist for your long-acting aripiprazole shot (Aristada). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear this medication. Lab and animal studies hinted that eleuthero might slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let aripiprazole build up a bit and nudge up side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, lightheadedness, or muscle stiffness.

The reassuring part: when researchers actually gave eleuthero to healthy people, it did not meaningfully block CYP2D6. So this concern stays largely theoretical and is rated minor and unlikely. Still, it never hurts to mention any supplement you're taking to the pharmacist or prescriber who manages your injections, just so everyone's on the same page.

Here's the short version on combining eleuthero with your Aristada injection. Your body partly clears aripiprazole using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In the lab and in animal studies, eleuthero looked like it might slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let aripiprazole build up a bit and nudge up side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, lightheadedness, or mild tremor.

The reassuring news: when researchers actually tested eleuthero in healthy people, it did not meaningfully block CYP3A4. So this is mostly a theoretical concern, rated minor and unlikely. Since your antipsychotic matters a lot for staying stable, I'd still mention any eleuthero use to your doctor or pharmacist before starting it, rather than guessing.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
