Bendamustine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero inhibit CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation in plain terms. Bendamustine is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Eleuthero, in lab and animal studies, appears to slow down that same enzyme. If that held true in people, your body might clear bendamustine a little slower, letting it build up. With a chemotherapy drug like this, higher levels could mean stronger side effects, things like a bigger drop in blood counts, more infection risk, nausea, fatigue, or mouth sores.

I want to be honest, though: this interaction is only theoretical right now. It hasn't been shown in humans, just test tubes and animals. Still, because bendamustine is serious chemo handled by your oncology team, please don't add eleuthero without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Bendamustine Injection Used For?

Brand names: Treanda, Belrapzo, Vivimusta

Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen.

For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.
