Methysergide Maleate falls under ERGOT DERIVATIVES — the group Ergot interacts with.

Concomitant use of ergot with ergot alkaloids or derivatives may increase the risk of adverse effects. Some of these include bromocriptine (Parlodel), dihydroergotamine (Migranal, DHE-45), ergotamine (Cafergot), and pergolide (Permax).

Here's the simple version: methysergide is itself an ergot-type medicine, used in the past to help prevent migraines. So if you take an ergot supplement on top of it, you're basically stacking two ergot effects together. Both can tighten blood vessels, and doubling up can push that effect too far.

What that can look like in real life is cold, tingly, or pale hands and feet, leg cramps, numbness, or chest tightness, since the blood vessels narrow more than intended. The evidence here is mostly anecdotal, not from strong studies, so I don't want to scare you. But raw ergot is genuinely toxic and the dose can't be controlled safely, so please don't pair it with methysergide. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.

Ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and contains powerful chemicals (ergot alkaloids) that strongly narrow blood vessels and squeeze the uterus. Because raw ergot is poisonous and the dose is impossible to control safely, it should never be used as a home remedy or supplement. Some purified ergot chemicals are used as prescription drugs under strict medical supervision, but the crude herb is not safe to take.
