Midazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down midazolam (Versed). In lab dish testing, False Unicorn appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, midazolam could hang around longer and feel stronger than expected, meaning more drowsiness, deeper sedation, slowed breathing, confusion, or feeling groggy for longer after a procedure.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This is only a test-tube finding, not something shown in actual patients, so it's theoretical at this point. Still, since midazolam is usually given right before procedures or anesthesia, please tell your medical team about any supplement like this beforehand so they can plan your dose safely.

There is very little reliable human research to show it actually works, and safety has not been well studied, so it should be used with caution and never during pregnancy. About Midazolam

What Is Midazolam Used For?

Brand names: Versed, Seizalam, Nayzilam

Midazolam is used in several different forms depending on the setting. Injectable midazolam (given by IV or IM shot) is used before and during surgery or procedures — such as endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, or bronchoscopy — to cause sedation, reduce anxiety, and prevent memory of the event. It can also be used to start general anesthesia or to keep heavily sedated, ventilated patients comfortable in a critical care unit. Midazolam HCl oral syrup is used specifically in children for sedation and anxiety relief before procedures or anesthesia induction, in a monitored medical setting only.

Nayzilam nasal spray is indicated for a different purpose: the acute treatment of seizure clusters (also called acute repetitive seizures) in people aged 12 and older who have epilepsy. It is used intermittently — not as a daily seizure medicine — when a cluster of seizures breaks through the person's usual pattern.
