Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for mometasone: in lab tests (not in people), False Unicorn seems to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways that helps clear mometasone from your body. In theory, blocking that enzyme could let more mometasone hang around, slightly nudging up its steroid effects.

The good news is that mometasone is usually applied to the skin (creams) or inhaled (Asmanex), so very little reaches your bloodstream to begin with. That makes a real-world problem unlikely, and remember this is based only on test-tube data, not human studies. Still, if you used a lot of strong topical steroid over big areas or for a long time, more steroid in your system could mean things like skin thinning or, rarely, body-wide steroid effects. If you're considering False Unicorn, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
