Trazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for trazodone. In test-tube studies, False Unicorn appears to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear trazodone. If that enzyme is working slower, trazodone could hang around longer than usual and build up a bit. For trazodone, that might mean more of its usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, not real people, so it may not amount to much in everyday life. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Please don't change your trazodone on your own.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for trazodone: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medication down and clear it out. In lab dish studies, False Unicorn appears to slow that same enzyme. If that effect actually happened in people, trazodone could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure, or feeling foggy or unsteady on your feet.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is only test-tube data, not something proven in real patients, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a sure thing. Still, since trazodone already causes sedation, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two. Don't change anything on your own.
