ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine
Aspirin, Caffeine, Orphenadrine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Fasting interacts with.
Fasting has been found to increase the international normalized ratio (INR) in patients stabilized on warfarin. Closely monitor patients who are fasting while taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combo product (Norgesic and similar) contains aspirin, which thins your blood by blocking platelets from clumping. The concern here is that going without food for stretches may nudge your bleeding risk up a little when you're also on an aspirin-containing product. We mostly know this from anecdotal reports and from fasting raising INR in people on warfarin, so it's not strong, well-proven evidence, more of a heads-up.
What that could look like with aspirin is easier bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset and irritation, especially since fasting plus aspirin on an empty stomach can be hard on the gut lining. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before fasting so they can keep an eye on you.
