Here's the simple version: anagrelide already lowers your platelets and can make you bleed or bruise more easily on its own. Fennel, at least in animal and lab studies, seems to have its own mild platelet-slowing and clot-slowing effect. Stack the two, and in theory you could tip a little further toward easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that takes longer to stop.

I want to be honest about the strength here, though. This is theoretical and based only on lab and animal data, not human studies. The fennel you eat in cooking or sip as a tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated fennel supplements or the essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. Before adding either, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your platelet counts.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
